Bruker takes majority stake in organ-on-chip specialist MIMETAS

Bruker has announced a majority investment in MIMETAS, the Leiden-based developer of organ-on-chip platforms and human tissue models. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal brings MIMETAS into a technology portfolio spanning proteomics, metabolomics, nuclear magnetic resonance, spatial biology and preclinical imaging. MIMETAS will continue to offer its OrganoPlate platform, ready-to-use tissue and organoid products, instruments and contract research services.
The technological angle
MIMETAS' OrganoPlate combines a standard microplate footprint with membrane-free microfluidic tissue culture. That format is intended to preserve features such as perfusion and tissue interfaces while remaining compatible with automated handling and imaging.
Bruker's stated strategy is to connect these human-relevant models with molecular and spatial readouts. If executed well, the combination could let researchers move from observing a tissue phenotype to profiling the pathways, metabolites and spatial changes associated with it in the same development programme.
Why it matters
The investment is a sign that microphysiological systems and new approach methodologies are moving closer to mainstream drug-discovery infrastructure. Model vendors increasingly need more than compelling biology: customers also need automation, validated readouts, analysis and support across a repeatable workflow.
For MIMETAS, Bruker's reach could accelerate adoption. For Bruker, the deal adds a human experimental layer upstream of its analytical platforms.

This is a strategic transaction, not yet a demonstrated integrated product. Useful evidence would include jointly validated workflows, cross-site performance and examples showing that combined organ-on-chip and multiomic measurements improve drug-development decisions.
